First of the big jobs - The new roofs

The property consists of 5 downstairs rooms, one upstairs room, 2 outbuildings and 500 meters of land. On the main cottage It has 3 concrete roofs and 2 timber roofs which were at the point of falling in, in fact one roof was being held up by a wooden pole.

The first job we wanted to do was to replace both the existing wooden roofs, until this was done we couldnt proceed with any other tasks.

Having asked various diffrent builders for quotes we finally recieved 3... The first was for 30,000EUR, the second was 13,000EUR and the third.... Wait for it.... 5000Eur and can start immediatly

Togeather we looked into the 5000 Euro quote, The building company had a Facebook page with lots of good reviews and pictures of previous work carried out. As we were both happy with the reccomendations we decided this was not only the cheapest quote but also the quickest option for us.

Having spoke to the builder it was agreed that we would fly out Friday, pay half as a deposit (Usual in Portugal) and they would start the work on Monday which in total would take around a week. My friend who lives local would then pay the final balance on completion of work in our absence.

As both rooms (reception room and kitchen) had no windows we wanted to add 2 skylights into each room. Leroy Merlin were quoting 500 Euro per wimdow for a small Velux window. Having done some research online, we ordered 4 large centre pivot Sunlux roof windows, along with 4 flashing kits, the total price was just short of £1000GBP, This was delivered via pallet straight into Algarve Removals Essex's depot and was delivered to our builder a week later for £125+VAT.
