The layout of the house and some features.
So to give you some idea of the layout of the house here is the plans below:
The house consists of the main building and the 2 out buildings across the back yard. The front of the house is on the roadside.
So as you enter from the roadside you have the bathroom (or rather where it should be according to the plans. We plan to stud wall this and create a bathroom)
there is also some stairs to the upstairs bedroom and a door to the right to the Kitchen. next to the kitchen is the Sala (living room) and a second living room (Hall) with the back door. The second bedroom is off the Hall. This has an amazing shaped roof (more photos on later posts)
outside the back there is a very small patio and a Cisterna (water tank) this was used historically to store water before there was any mains water. it still has crystal clear water in it, its very deep. We have not fully decided on our plans for this, we could try to fill it with concrete , or put decking over the top of it, or even convert it into a small pool (which is what many have done)
across the yard is two other large rooms, on the plans they are listed as a Cozinha (kitchen) and Casa de Forno (fire house/ bake house). we plan to convert these eventually but its not a priority at the moment. they are currently sued as sheds. to convert these we would have to have a new roof and some signifiant building work to remove the large oven inside.
The Neighbour advised the house is over 180 years old. Which makes the house being built around 1840. The best way to describe the house would be Quirky, firstly the walls are 2 foot thick, they are made of rubble and stone , mixed with concrete which makes them soft in places and solid in others. the walls are challenging to drill, but structurally it would take a tank to knock down the house. The roofs are very high, there is only 2 doors and 2 windows (although we added 4 skylights). So all this makes the house cool in summer and warm in Winter.
Electricity is supplied to the building but only with limited lights and sockets. and Water is also on the outside (but has never been connected and there is no pipes from it into the house)
The Land:
The land is rustic land, its like a small field. enough space for some fruit trees (we already have a couple) a horse , maybe some chickens ect. it has a small building, its an old wash house with a very old toilet in it, connected to a soak-away. and a old brick structure which was apparently for rearing Pigs. At the end of the field there is the main train line which runs along the algarve. the nearest station is 5 mins away.
Rustic land had many restrictions. We can't build on it. we can have some sheds, maybe clamping pods or even a caravan. but currently we have no plans for it.
